Wreckfest is a car game where there is more emphasis on crashing cars than there would be in normal car games.
That's really it.
It handles quite well for a non-sim racer with decent physics, and it looks pretty good with hilarious damage models. The music is meh. I won't bore you with any more technical stuff because, well, it’s sufficient to competent, and it isn't the kind of game that will really affect your opinion of the game if that stuff is a little off because the point is silly fun, and the game delivers.
Just look at this smashed 3-wheeled delivery cart ramming other delivery carts and avoiding buses inside some kind of mix between a skate park and Thunderdome.
Watch this - it's 24 riding lawn mowers racing in a figure 8 track while trying to avoid a harvester. Spoilers: One guy doesn’t avoid the harvester, and I didn’t avoid the ragdoll.
Here's that same 3-wheeler again, but this time, you're on an oval track, surrounded by 12 busses.
It's hilarious. There’s normal-ish car racing in there too.
I think the game rides that mix of challenging/fun really well - always ramping the difficulty up slightly with faster cars and more dangerous courses as you get better, but not making it so hard as to keep you from progressing.
And that really is Wreckfest - it’s exactly what you’d imagine it is, and if that’s of interest to you, I think you’ll enjoy.
