In our continuing series to highlight the most intriguing titles to come in 2016, let's take a look at..............
Mirror's Edge Catalyst
All too often we're given some kind of line about an "all new experience" or a "twist to the genre" when rarely is that actually the case. The original Mirror's Edge really was that kind of twist.
A first person platformer traversing in and across skyscrapers, infused with parkour and acrobatic melee combat; yeah, tell me where you've played that game before.
The dystopian future with an overbearing government might not be the most original backdrop, but it's influence as to why your role as a "runner" exists sure is. The look of the game gives it a unique personality as well, with the very clean surroundings and bright/neon colors strewn about - it's almost more unsettling at how nice everything is compared to many dystopian settings.
This is an intriguing sequel as the first one was not seen as a strong commercial success which usually doesn't result in green lighting a sequel, yet it has been granted new life - so here's to EA for giving this innovating title continued support and to DICE for one of the more innovative takes on FPS in a long time. I'm happy to see titles that push the boundaries continue to do so, and I look forward to what Mirror's Edge Catalyst has in store for us later in 2016.
