Today we will highlight the work of one, Martin Millar – an accomplished graphic designer whose work I originally found on Instagram for his t-shirt line Slippytee, and composer who is currently working with multiple indie games in development in addition to his existing discography.

It started with a double tap.
You know, the thing you do when you *heart* something on Instagram.
On this particular day, I happened upon an image of Samus Aran in the form of a clock. Half 16-bit Samus, half custom minimalist font all on top of a striking orange background. It's striking and oh-so-cool, so I trace back to it's creator's Instagram page and - oh look, Super Hang-On box art!
25 some-odd *hearts* later, I'm beyond Instagram, onto the Slippytee website combing through all of the designs trying to keep it (my wallet that is) in my pants.
What you get from Slippytee is an eclectic mix between it's minimalist interpretations of classic gaming titles, and some choice Japanese box art that looks like you found gaming gold rummaging through the back of a thrift store.
My own personal tastes make me the unwitting target of the products in question. Almost all of them certainly belong in my collection, but it's a case of "the body is willing, but the wallet is unable."
At the end of the hours spent pouring over the designs, I’ve not only left my *heart* mark on half of their Instagram page (the act that replaces me simply mailing my wallet directly to Martin), but I’ve sent an email half a world away to bother an unknowing gentleman (really and truly) to ask him some silly questions about his designs.
And it's lucky that he really is a gentleman, as he humored me and spent more than a few days answering a barrage of emails and questions. Stay tuned, as part 2 is the resulting Q&A with Martin where we discuss artistic influences, what kind of effort and training he's invested to become a designer, his favorite games for influence and to play and more.
