Let's get back to a few of the most intriguing titles to come in 2016. Up next.......
The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U (aka, the reason I will buy a Wii U).
The Legend of Zelda is a title that will resonate with anyone who has played video games prior to the early 2000s.
I am blindingly loyal (read; fanboi) to the series (with exceptions made for handheld titles, I just don't enjoy some of those) and this really will be the reason I end up buying a Wii U. This pick is probably a bit selfish and may lack the intrigue of some of the others I've written about (unlike my pick of No Man's Sky - no personal interest, but it is intriguing) , but I know with this being the first HD Zelda and probably one of the last big launches for the Wii U before the NX launch, there is intrigue surrounding the game (or maybe I'm trying to justify it, whatever).
The concept we've all been given fleeting glimpses of speak of open world traits where the player can choose different things to do - while this isn't necessarily new for Zelda with OOT using the "hub" of Hyrule Field or Wind Waker and it's Great Ocean - the twist comes with the admission that we may be able to choose what order to do dungeons in. The normal "metroidvania" style progression would be bypassed, breaking the mold in the way that A Link Between Worlds did.
With all the success lately of open world games like Metal Gear Solid V and The Witcher 3, the bar has been raised since we were last teased by the Zelda team. We can only trust that they will once again find a way to adopt and refine those attributes in a way that only the big N can.
Now I have to go save my pennies so I can get the inevitable Wii U Zelda special edition bundle.
